“Come to Me All those Toiling and being burdened
And I will give Rest to You” --Jesus
Rest. Rest. Take some moments to still yourself. Read over these words of Jesus. Every word. Take in each word. Behold it on the inside. What does it say? What does each word say to you? How does Jesus' command here speak to you?
Jesus says, "Come unto me you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. For I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find REST for your souls." Matthew 11: 28-29.
Speak each word out loud. And again as if Jesus were speaking directly to you. What is he saying to YOU?. It may be easier to say what Jesus is saying to us or to someone else. After you behold that, speak each word out loud as if Jesus is speaking directly to you. What exactly is he saying to YOU?
Come to me you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you REST. REST.
There's actually so much here for us. In each sentence. In each word. And in his command to us. Come to me - Take my yoke - Learn from Me - Rest for your souls.
This Sunday, I will be preaching and sharing in worship at Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren. In preparation, I have been living with these words of Jesus for some weeks. In praying through this scripture and listening for Jesus in his words, I have discovered that this too is a Great Commandment of Jesus and a needed commandment for these times. To internalize these words of Jesus has arrested and is reordering my whole operation. Jesus is calling us to 1) Come to him 2) Take his yoke upon us 3) Learn from him and in these there is REST. In these we find rest for our souls. My, my, my. There is so much here in Jesus words to us in Matthew 11:28-30.
I will have much more to say about this later. For now, there are only 3 words, Beloved. Get - Some - Rest. Get some rest. Rest in Him. Hear Jesus.
God loves you/us so much!
Listen and behold Christ Jesus' word for us in these times.
